why is mold testing necessary?
Mold testing is necessary to identify the presence and type of mold in indoor environments, which can pose significant health risks and structural damage if left untreated. Many molds produce allergens, irritants, and in some cases, toxic substances that can cause respiratory problems, allergic reactions, and other health issues. Testing helps determine the extent of mold contamination and guides appropriate remediation efforts.
Additionally, mold testing can uncover hidden mold growth behind walls or under flooring, ensuring that all affected areas are addressed. Proper mold assessment is essential for maintaining a safe, healthy indoor environment and protecting property value.
To have a succesful mold remediation, a few things MUST happen
A thorough inspection must be performed by an experienced, state licensed mold assessor.
The mold assessor will then create a plan of action, called a Remediation protocol, that outlines the affected area and what work needs to be performed to return the affected area to Pre-loss condition.
This protocol should then be used by a SEPERATE licensed mold remediation company, to outline all of what needs to be removed, cleaned and/or discarded to ensure the mold growth is completely eradicated. This includes environmental controls such as where to place the containment barrier, how many HEPA Air scrubbers are needed, and how far outside of the immediate affected area needs to be cleaned.
Finally, the licensed mold assessor will return to inspect the containment area (work area) and may perform sampling to confirm the removal of mold growth was successful.
